What number is the arrow pointing to?

Answer: 0.3. The line from 0 to 1 is split into ten equal steps (tenths); the arrow is on step 3, so it points to 0.3.
A pupil writes: 0.5 + 0.5 = 0.10. Find the mistake.
- They wrote the sum like whole numbers — but 5 tenths + 5 tenths = 10 tenths = 1.0.

Answer: They wrote the sum like whole numbers — but 5 tenths + 5 tenths = 10 tenths = 1.0.. 5 tenths + 5 tenths = 10 tenths = 1 whole. Pupil wrote 0.10 (= 0.1), confusing 10 tenths with 10 hundredths.
A jug holds 8 litres of juice and is shared equally between 10 glasses. How many litres does each glass hold?

Answer: 0.8. 8 ÷ 10 = 0.8 litres.
